In the village of Royston, South Yorkshire, above the Co-op car park, is a steep winding path which heads to the right and into the remains of a long abandoned quarry. There once was access to a long forgotten, ancient, pack horse bridge. Though, this seems to have vanished since JMJ was a child. The bottom, left-hand, corner painting 'Quarry path' was to be the first of four paintings. The second, top right, is 'Quarry gate'. The third, bottom right, is 'Quarry arch' and the fourth, top left, is 'Quarry hill'. Placed beside each other, in a row, all four paintings can be swapped around to create different vistas. The water can be in the middle of the scene or at either end of the scene. Alternatively, the four canvases can form a sides of a cube to create a continuous circular scene. JMJ used this continuous scene concept from paper and pen drawings he would doodle as a teenager.
