The largest of all JMJ's canvases, at around 6ft/1.5m square, this painting mapped out, mainly from fragments of memory, the oriental lake, People's republic of China garden and the Japanese garden at the 1984 Liverpool International Garden Festival. In reality, only the Chinese cascade and the Japanese garden (top left-hand corner) are in their correct settings. The gardens, and structures, were partially renovated and re-opened in 2011. Eleven years later and the small pagoda has been removed and the lake almost dried up.
